Obama Decries 'Outrageous Myths' Abou... Washington Post
President Obama used his weekly radio and Internet address to call for "honest debate" about his health-care reform proposals and decry "willful misrepresentations," "outright distortions" and "outrageous myths" circulating on the Internet, cable television and at town halls across the country.Recorded Friday and released Saturday, in the video Obama seeks to assure members of the public in blunt terms that illegal immigrants will not be eligible for insurance under reform proposals and that the plans do not mandate coverage for abortions, contain "death panels," or portend a "government-takeover" of health care. He also sought to explain the role of a "public option" in the reform proposals and said his plans will expand access while providing consumers with new "security" and "stability" in their care.
The video message comes as the White House is seeking to reclaim the initiative in a health-care debate that polls show is being met with growing skepticism.
